I have created a wrapper around rdesktop which reconnects you with the new geometry whenever you resize the window. It is pretty much just a quick hack, but a hwo useful one. Restarting it seems like a pain, but I'm guessing it's the best possible solution for now. Being that something like vmware does it on the fly I would think with some sort of client software running on the remote might be able to aid the desktop size change without a restart.
